Nightmares Become Reality

Author's Note: This is a really short story that follows "Dreams Can Come True." So if you didn't read that one, I suggest you do before continuing.




"Ares!" Xena screamed. Ares appeared quickly; thinking they had left everything on a good note. But when Ares saw Xena's angry face he asked, "What's wrong?" "What's wrong," Xena mimicked, "I'll tell you what's wrong. I'm pregnant thanks to you!" Ares broke out in a smile but frowned when he saw Xena's angry face. Ares said, "Look Xena. I'm... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..." "I know. I know. I'm not mad, but..." "But what?" Ares asked. Xena answered, "How are we going to take care of this child and Gabrielle will freak and...and well...everything." She sighed frustrated. Ares put his arms around her and pulled her close to him. Trying to soothe her, he said, "It'll be all right. We'll get through this."

Just then Gabrielle walked up and asked, "Get through what?" Xena said, "Gabrielle, I'm going to have a baby." Gabrielle stared at Xena in shock. Gabrielle finally found her voice and said, "With who? Ares?" Xena nodded. Gabrielle was silent for a moment and suddenly fainted. Xena said to Ares, "That's the best reaction I could get from her."

Xena got some cold water and dumped it on Gabrielle's face. Gabrielle sputtered and woke up. She remembered what had just happened and suddenly saw Ares and said, "You and Xena...you two...you did...I mean...Xena how could you and Ares do...you know." "Gabrielle," Xena said, "I love him." Gabrielle wasn't convinced so said, "Xena, are you sure about this. I mean, he is the God of War. Can the God of War really feel love?" "Yes, I can," Ares said, "and I love Xena."

Gabrielle was silent for a moment as she took in everything that was happening. Finally she said, " If that's what you want, I wish you two luck." Xena and Ares stared at Gabrielle as she walked off toward her home.
